In 2012 the Netherlands Media Art Institute (NIMk) invited FIBER to curate an exhibition that reflected current artistic developments within our network of up-and-coming audiovisual artists and designers. The exhibition was one of the last achievements of the, due to the cultural budget cuts, closed institute. We are proud that we have contributed to the rich history of the now closed institute for time based arts. ‘(Im)possible Worlds’ ran from August 23rd until September 30th at Platform 2.
The presented installations reflected on the theme ‘(Im)possible Worlds’ and refers to the notion of how the physical real is blended with the virtual nature of the computerized world, resulting in new realities that might be perceived as material, but remain intangible. In the case of moving images, the apparatus acts as a mediator between the (im)possible worlds displayed and the tactile and emotional experiences they invoke in the audience. Using computer systems, the interdisciplinary artists construct audiovisual and material representations of light, sound, movement and space that allow the experience of alternative notions of reality.
