FIBER x The Rest Is Noise 2025
Friday 10 Januari 2025
Artists that weave together electronic music, live visuals, lighting design and technology. The evening centers on the spiritual power of indigenous and ritual culture, where worlds meet and provide the space for subdued stories, healing and working toward a state of catharsis. In doing so, the artists work with spatial designs of fabric, costumes, light, video and working from instruments and ceremonial objects.
Aïsha Devi + Emmanuel Biard }§{ present 'Les Immortelles' (Live AV)
Aïsha Devi nurtures an idiosyncratic approach to her music. She describes her sound as Aetherave, and uses bassy-heavy club motifs and intentional aesthetic signifiers to transport listeners to a dizzying, kinetic environment, harnessing timeless frequencies. The show “les Immortelles” is a multidimensional odyssey incarnating Devi’s latest album Death Is Home. A journey of rebirth and elevation from the abyssal matrix to a supernatural transcendental state. It features lighting design and scenography from Emmanuel Biard, who is also known for his work for artists like Evian Christ, No Plexus and Lotic.
Harnessing timeless frequencies, Devi channels crystalline HD bass motifs and weightless vocals in a sonic manifesto towards healing and forging a path for an alternate, more hospitable reality beyond the human condition. On each record, Devi has advanced her philosophy and developed her technology. Her latest album ‘Death is Home’, that will be performed during Les immortelles, is ultimately a manifesto. It’s Devi’s most revealing work to date and a direct result of her personal evolution and ongoing quest. Growing up under the shadow of isolation and abuse, she formed her practice as a healing method, using it to neutralize her past and recreate an alternate, more hospitable reality – beyond the human condition.
Animistic Beliefs & Jeisson Drenth present ‘Thức Tỉnh (Awaken)’ (Live AV)
Thức Tỉnh is a performance composed by artists Linh Luu and Mar Lalihatu, known together as the musical duo Animistic Beliefs, and media and performance artist Jeisson Drenth. Bridging the past and future through a unique blend of traditional and contemporary art forms, this performance captures a breathless rave spirit that Luu, Lalihatu and Drenth channel to collectively convey experiences that are too frequently absent from the Western canon.
Thức Tỉnh merges ancestral narratives into modern apparitions. Rather than approaching cultural history as vital yet immovable, the latest audiovisual collaboration of the trio brings the varied Vietnamese-Chinese, Moluccan and Pre-Columbian heritage of the artists to life.Incorporating traditional sounds and instruments into uniquely modern configurations, the performance is an evocative exploration of bi-cultural identity, migration, and belonging, in which the more the narrative of the past is approached, the more open the future they propose appears to be.
During the programme of FIBER x The Rest is Noise, we will intive justin case (DJ) to musically complement the evening. justin case is the sonic outlet of Eleni, an Athens-born, Amsterdam-based writer, researcher, and DJ. In their sets, justin channels a broad spectrum of emotions, moods, and states: mischief, playfulness, whimsy, hedonism, joy, and melancholy. Guided by a genre-fluid approach, justin’s sets have a penchant for heavy basslines, percussive rhythms, cheeky lyrics, and moments of bliss.
