Databooth is an ‘ongoing’ meta-art project. As a part of the FIBER festival exhibition and (Im)possible Worlds, data – produced by interactive or generative installations – was shared to the web. External developers could tap into different types of data and use it for new visualisations or applications. In the framework of Ryoji Ikeda’s exhibition DATA.SCAN [Nº1-9], MU & Databooth (FIBER) presented workshops and a lecture about data visualization for students of audiovisual media, media design and video design.
Sietse van der Meer (FIBER) and Heinze Havinga (SETUP/Left Foot Media) were responsible for a workshop on data visualization at MU. During this workshop, the participants learned how to develop visualizations using their own data sets. They worked with Give Me My Data, an application that can export data from a Facebook account for reuse in visualizations or digital storytelling. Besides introducing those interested to the applications and technical aspects of data visualization, the workshop focused particularly on the artistic use of data.
