In recent years, Loraine James has emerged as one of the most forward-thinking producers of the moment. Experimental never stands synonymous with inaccessibility within James’ playful vocabulary: a dizzying mix of jazz, electronica, UK drill, pop and grime. With her album For You And I, she seeks out the raw edges, with the catchy pop melody often forming the springboard for bold experimentation.
Successor Reflection is a more streamlined and minimalist project that shows the introspective and intimate side of club music. Building Something Beautiful For Me (2022), was James’s tribute to the iconic New York minimal composer Julius Eastman, a musical reinterpretation and response to his legacy. In 2023, she released the LP Gentle Confrontation, which explores both her past and present. James says it’s the record she would have liked to have made as a teenager – the album’s musical tendencies reflecting that period in her life. In between albums, James delves into countless impulsive projects – such as her unruly alter ego Whatever The Weather – in which the sheer joy of her creative process is palpable.
During Aural Spaces, James will apply her boundless creativity and expressive, almost diary-like approach within the 4DS Soundsystem, which will of course result in a singular musical experience. For this special occasion, she will perform a brand new musical project, commissioned for Aural Spaces.
This concert is co-presented and commissioned by FIBER Festival and Concertvrienden, Entrée and 4DSOUND. Supported and co-produced by MONOM.
