Spiritual audiovisual quests, ending in rave-catharsis

A Visual Recap of FIBER x The Rest is Noise 2025

Powerful, colourful and highly personal audiovisual stories took centre stage at our traditional New Year’s Eve gathering FIBER x The Rest Is Noise. Balancing between emotionally charged experiences and cathartic moments, it was an evening we could not have ended with staying seated. Thank you for joining us to experience this double-bill of adventurous audiovisual performances.

The programme centered on the spiritual power of indigenous and ritual culture, providing a space for subdued stories and healing, ending in states filled with catharsis. Congratulations to Animistic Beliefs & Jeisson Drenth, including their creative team, with the premiere presentation of Thức Tỉnh (Awaken). The performance transformed the main hall of the Muziekgebouw into a multi-sensory world where new realities emerged, exploring themes of identity, biculturalism, and colonialism. Merging traditional and contemporary art forms — such as shadow puppetry and masked choreography — with electronic music.

The evening ended in complete bliss, carried by the rave energy of Aïsha Devi. Supported by a sea of waving fabrics, heavy smoke, and atmospheric light designs by Emmanuel Biard, the performance evoked a spiritual experience, leading us into a state of transcendence. The Swiss-Nepalese/Tibetan artist combined her conjuring voice with heavy bass sounds, continuing her quest to break down the rigid boundaries between life and death and bringing up experiences that transcend the physical and spiritual realms.

Amsterdam-based justin case (DJ) delivered deep sonic landscapes during the breaks between acts, finishing off with percussion-heavy rhythms.

We want to thank all the artists and technical teams for making the performances happen. A big thanks to Muziekgebouw, Muziekgebouw Productiehuis and The Rest Is Noise. To everyone who came by and welcomed the new year with us, thank you!
