On Thursday 28 October during FIBER Festival 2021, the artists Zeno van den Broek and Robin Koek presented the première of their project Raumklang (2021) at the Atrium of Muziekgebouw, Amsterdam.
Raumklang is a site-specific Augmented Reality Sound Installation, location-specific sound architecture, created and explored by multiple visitors simultaneously. The installation developed by Zeno van den Broek and Robin Koek invited visitors to experience 4-dimensional objects in space, which are perceived through hearing: visitors’ perspective and auditory experience morphing constantly as they navigate their way around and through these invisible sonic objects. The work fully engages with the potential of sound, acoustics and interaction in order to move beyond the visual monopoly on architectural experience, activating visitors’ innate sense of curiosity and thereby forging deeper relationships between the visitor and the space they are in
About the artists
Zeno van den Broek is a Dutch composer and artist whose works investigate and unsettle the relationships between people and fabricated surroundings. His work is situated at the intersection of sound art, audiovisual performances, installation art and architecture.
Robin Koek is a sound artist who aspires to nurture, through art and education, a new cognitive understanding of the world surrounding us. His practice spans various artistic disciplines such as sound art, electronic music production, composition and live performance.
Partners
The installation was developed by Robin Koek and Zeno van den Broek over four years with the support of various organisations. The first prototypes were presented at Gaudeamus Music Week, after which the work was further developed and supported over a period of three years in cooperation with V2_ Lab for the Unstable Media. The Grey Space in The Middle has recently supported a residency and preliminary presentation. The work was made possible with support from the Creative Industries Fund NL, Gerrard Street and STEIM.
Raumklang was presented in the context of FIBER Festival 2021, in collaboration with our partner The Rest Is Noise (Muziekgebouw) and with special mention of Raumklang’s co-producer and long-time supporter V2_ Lab for the Unstable Media.
