CCL Open Lab Session & Keynote – 30/05

20 | 03 | 19

To celebrate the end of the Choreographic Coding Lab Amsterdam 2019, everyone is invited to experience the outcomes of the five-day prototyping lab at the intersection of dance, creative coding, choreography, media/sound art and digital technology at Dansmakers!

Over 25 international participants have been experimenting and prototyping possible new artistic projects, sharing knowledge and translating aspects of choreography and dance into digital form and applying choreographic thinking to their own practice. The possibilities range from machine learning experiments to the reimagination of dance data to create new works. Join us at the Open Lab Sessions for inspiring conversations. Meet the makers and learn more about their artistic experiments. During the entire evening, you will have the opportunity to pose your own questions to the keynote speakers and the makers!

We’ve invited two keynote speakers dr. Laura Kareman and media artist Choy Ka Fai, who will reflect upon the CCL and will introduce you to their research at the intersection of dance and technology. Afterwards, the participants of the CCLab Amsterdam will share in public their ongoing projects.

▶ Dr. Laura Karreman (NL) is a researcher and lecturer in the Department of Media and Culture Studies at Utrecht University. In this lecture, she will elaborate on why graphic lines and traces continue to be such an attractive way to visualize choreographic data.

▶ Choy Ka Fai (UK/SG) is a media artist and performance maker. He is inspired by the histories and theorizations that together contain the uncertainties of the future. In this talk, Choy will present his recent work “UnBearable Darkness”, in which he lets the extraordinarily active ghost dance again within an avatar.
