FIBER presents Coded Matter(s); a series of events with presentations, workshops and performances that explore the possibilities and pitfalls of emerging digital culture. Our programme presents how artists create connections within their work between human expression, code and algorithms, data, and their physical surroundings for the creation of visual art, sound and multi-sensory environments. Coded Matter(s) functions as a platform for bringing together frontrunners within many creative disciplines. Furthermore, we aim to open up these developments and make them accessible to a broad audience, providing opportunities to experience the many possibilities and tools.
Coded Matter(s) Series 2
Explorations in hybrid art, design and music
Introduction
The second series ran from March until June of 2014 and included three events: Coding the Club was part of the 5 Days Off festival and showed how the DIY hacking culture and media art influences new club experiences and multisensory live shows. The Algorave put theory into practice and presented a new wave in experimental dance-music creation, where live coders and instrumentalists took over the dancefloor. Extended Senses, an 8 hour programme marathon, unlocked how intelligent technology grows around us and towards us as an extension of the body, both visible and invisible. In addition, we organized a workshop at DEAF in Rotterdam to explore the possibilities of extending your senses for speculative media art projects.
