Hot on the heels of FIBER Festival 2015, we are very pleased to announce our next event, Coded Matter(s) #9: High Fidelity. Presented in collaboration with De Brakke Grond, this event will comprise the ninth edition of our popular Coded Matter(s) series and will take place on 18 June at Flemish arts centre De Brakke Grond.

For this specially curated programme, expect an intensive evening of advanced presentations, talks, and discussions, in addition to a comprehensive two-day workshop – all led by international forerunners in the fields of art and computer vision research. This edition’s theme is ‘High Fidelity,’ touching on the powerfully interconnected relationship between light, code, calibration and resolution.

Hacked video projectors, calibrated lasers and alternative screen resolutions are only a few examples of how artists merge code, form, media and matter. Presented as artistic research or immersive light scenographies, these practices manipulate our notion of space and calibrate human perception. Their aesthetic research crosses and questions the boundaries of the image which have been defined by industry standards.

What impact do these practices have on our contemporary visual culture? Coded Matter(s) #9: High Fidelity explores how technology programmes human perception, but also the ways artists effectively hack, modify, and uncover industrial standards and protocols. What is the critical potential of these artistic and scientific practices?
