On June 16th 2012, Nuit Blanche will show you a different side of the city. From 7pm till 7am, this nighttime festival guides you to Amsterdam’s undiscovered parts. As in previous years, the program consists of creative experiments and unusual combinations of locations and artists. Cheer on Mexican wrestlers in the Lucha Libre show, dance amidst interactive art installations or liberate your mind and lexicon during the Long Lyrical Night. This year the expedition will lead you past 19 festival areas, from locations in the red light district to the raw Cruquius area in the Eastern harbour district. From hidden backrooms to boundless hangars. In one night and in front of almost 5000 visitors, more than a hundred creators and artists present their dream project.
DEFRAME Collective and designer/artist Yelena Mysko at the Sea Palace
Our very own DEFRAME Collective is taking part in one of the premier locations of this years Nuit Blanche; the magical and floating Sea Palace. Enter a bizarre parallel world with a virtual fashion show, interactive sounds, high -tech digital sculpting and more… (in collaboration with designer/artist Yelena Mysko).

Did you know that this was the first floating Chinese restaurant in Europe? Now is the time to get on board and discover their authentic Chinese kitchen. Reserve a ticket for a ‘shared dinner’. Within a party of twelve people, friends or strangers, you will pass-on all the exciting dishes from the menu. Simultaneously collaborator Saint Germain Creative Agency will create a ’Digital Art Space’. A topsy-turvy electronic fairytale accessible and entertaining for all Nuit Blanche visitors who are curious about this location.
A somewhat schizophrenic program
This brings about a somewhat schizophrenic program: dark dubstep beats at the Waag, meditative fairy tales in the Bethanienklooster, when ballet fills up industrial B*oost. In the erotic theatre Casa Rosso, church and porn assemble the program. Bike rental shop Starbikes provides a smokey boudoir-like setting and Red Light Radio brings live coverage of the night, from their teensy backroom. They will also host a mini festival with home-brewed beer and pop-up gardening.
Artists and chefs prepare the Nuit Blanche dinners
Don’t set out for this 12-hour-long creative tour on an empty stomach. A village of artists in the Krux hangar creates a modern Agora. With six (art) installations on the market square, the chefs experiment with unusual, but crafty culinary art and food design. In the floating Eastern baroque fortress Sea Palace you share a table with friends and strangers, together you will taste distinguished dishes from the traditional Chinese kitchen. Meanwhile creative agency Saint Germain will actualize a Digital Art Space with interactive sounds, a digital fashion show and geometric visuals. For genuine night owls, restaurant Bak serves breakfast in Loods 6.
